Hawaii's Salsa Competition
Summer Salsa in Paradise is a qualifier for
THE 2nd WORLD LATIN DANCE CUP

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this salsa contest is to decide which couple can best interpret the character of salsa music and dance and can represent Hawaii at the 2nd Annual World Latin Dance Cup.
GOAL
Albert Torres and the committees producing these competitions are proud that the winners of each division will be eligible to be a part of the world’s most prestigious, respected, and most watched salsa competition. Their goal is to give the greatest salsa dancers in the world the recognition they have deserved for many years. Our time has come! This is why some of the judging and criteria may be more strict than usual. Our goal is to take salsa to places where it has never been. Hopefully with everyone's participation, whether it be competing or attending the Finals in Las Vegas, this event will once again be a success. In supporting salsa events like this, we keep our music alive and pass it on to future generations. We are truly “Creating Unity Through Salsa.” We have many additional projects, which we help to educate the world about the beauty and history of the music and dance called Salsa. We will show the world that it is not color blind but instead color rich.
Categories (Hawaii only)
"On 1" Division (strictly dancing)
"On 2" Division (strictly dancing)
In the "On 1" and "On 2" categories, no move in which both feet leave the ground at the same time will be permitted. This includes any move that raises any body part above the partner’s shoulders. If at any time both feet of one or both dancers leave the ground, points will be deducted. If any part of the body of either dancer goes above the partner’s shoulders, the couple will be disqualified with no refund. They will also not be permitted to re-enter under this or any other division during this particular qualifying contest. They can enter another qualifying contest in the future by registering and paying the entry fee for that particular event.

Competition Schedule:
Thursday, July 21st – Preliminary competition at Rumours Nightclub in the Ala Moana Hotel (time TBA)
Friday, July 22nd – Semi-finals at Ala Moana Hotel (time TBA)
Saturday, July 23rd – Final round at Hard Rock Café (time TBA)
Winners will be announced on July 23, 2011 at the Hawaii Summer Salsa In Paradise, Hard Rock Café.
Fees for competition are $100.00 per couple and must be submitted with your entry form. This fee includes admission to each venue for competition whether or not you advance to the next round. The dance competition will be scored by judges selected by Albert Torres. No changing of partners can occur after you have entered the preliminary rounds.
The Grand Prize will include 2 roundtrip tickets from Honolulu to Las Vegas to compete in the 2nd World Latin Dance Cup, hotel accommodations during the competition and entry fees into the Salsa Championships. Prizes are sponsored by Alma Latina Produtions, Albert Torres Production and the World Latin Dance Cup Championships. In the event that the winners of the Hawaii competition are from a location other than Hawaii, they will receive roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas not to exceed the amount of $500.00 per ticket.
Start preparing now for the opportunity to represent Hawaii in this world class Salsa dance competition. 1st place winners qualify to compete at the 2nd World Latin Dance Cup to be held at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, December 14-17, 2011.
